As someone whose family has participated in CSI (Science Olympiad), I'd like to throw in my 2 cents.

    CSI is awesome!!!!

In past years we used it as our sole curriculum. My oldest son got a perfect score on his science ACT and attributes it to CSI.

More importantly, my children have developed a love for science that they may not otherwise have. In fact, my three oldest all want to get into medicine now -- they loved competing in anatomy and physiology. My fourth child wants to be an archetect and so especially loved the bridge building and catapult competitions.

There is something about competition that motivates children to learn!

The neat thing is that they get to compete in so many different areas of science -- areas I would have never dreamed of teaching.

I especially recommend CSI for high school. Those are the years when most parents feel challenged to teach higher level science. The CSI program is challenging and comprehensive, leaving some breathing room for the mom teacher. Oh, don't get me wrong -- it's hard work. You'll be chaufeering kids, following up to make sure they're getting their work down, giving up a few Saturdays to drive to competitions (where they can earn medals and build their science-esteem!!!!), but it is so worth it.

Plus, you get to meet and make friends with a lot of wonderful Christian homeschool families!

Sadly, we will not be taking part in CSI this year as we've moved an hour away. However, we are now motivated to look into starting our own Science Olympiad homeschool team on the eastside of the state. (I don't know if it'll actually happen but with a lot of prayer ... )

Please don't hesitate to contact me if you'd like some firsthand information from a mom who's been there.

    Blessings,
    Maureen :)

  3. I was wondering 2 things. What do you consider middle school and is it too late to join?
